Seoulless 3D Projects
So I thought I'd create a separate topic for the 3D projects I'm working on.
If you haven't been checking my manip post, then this first project is a new runabout for use on my future explorer project. I also thought it would be interesting for some of you to see the progress, the tweeks, etc. that happen with these types of projects.
So this was my initial concept drawing:
I'm not a great artist so I tried focus on a couple of specific things, such as overall shape and location of major pieces/characteristics.
This was the first 3D shape design that was created. Originally it was created as a single shape.
Unfortunately when we began adding details to it we discovered that it wasn't the best way to build the model.
So we started over and created this shape:
Each major shaped component was created as an individual piece and then joined together to create the larger shape.
Adding more details we began working on the nacelle and the side door.
After adding these details I decided that I didn't like the way the nacelles fit with the hull. I wanted something sleeker so we modified the nacelle:
Detail work still progresses and I will post more updates with the significant milestones to the project.
Hope everyone is excited to see this.

Re: Seoulless' 3D Projects
Nice work you've done!
At this rate, I should imagine that someday we'll be posting graphic novels.
And beyond that? Our own CGI movies.
It really isn't a stretch. I remember the dawn of old command line DOS.

Re: Seoulless' 3D Projects
Thanks. This is the second 3d ship I've designed. Its always interesting to see how the 3d model changes from the concept drawing.
Will add more updates later.

Pretty cool. It looks like it's coming along nicely.

Re: Seoulless' 3D Projects
After some interference from real life, my runabout project continues. Here are some of the newer updates. More details are now being added.
I think the shape is coming along nicely and visually should be different enough from other runabouts to have that uniqueness that I like.
Feedback is always welcome.

Re: Seoulless 3D Projects
With work now restarting on my shuttle project, I thought I'd post up my sketches for a new escort. Tentatively I'm calling this one the Aegis-class Close Escort. The design premise is a small escort warship that is stationed on space station or on larger ships. It has low warp speed because it isn't meant for long range. It is carried by other ships or patrols near stations/bases.
It is smaller than the Defiant to make it easier to berth on larger ships. In addition it was designed to be easily produced using proven and reliable technology rather than cutting edge technology. The idea was that this is a design that could be mass produced quickly to garrison key strategic facilities after the losses suffered by Starfleet in recent conflicts. It makes this a relatively no-nonsense ship with high firepower (not Defiant level) and good defenses, but low warp speeds and little cargo for extended missions.
I designed this to be carried by the Savant-class explorer which is my next 3d project.
Again I'm not much of an artist so the 3d model will probably look a little different (and hopefully cooler).
Here is a horrible front sketch.
