The way Federation technology keeps advancing, the day will come when you can step into a transporter and have it translate you into a different species? Not cosmetic surgery, not an impostor, but a true new body, brain morphology, metabolism, and DNA.
There could be sanity limitations with some radically different morphologies (unless you're willing to sacrifice your existing thoughts and emotions).
