Monthly Update - October 2016

Post by Alex » Fri Oct 07, 2016 2:35 am

Hi everyone!

We had another great month here in Pegasus Fleet. Since the new rules introduced last month, we've seen several of our sims improve in activity. We have, unfortunately seen a few sims that left or closed, but we have some new active sims and a few more COs in the Academy. I'd like to welcome Captain James Warrington of the USS Hephaistos and Commander Mitchell Hanson of the Battlestar Solaria. We have been becoming very attractive to prospective COs and players recently, and the common theme has been that Pegasus Fleet has such an open and active community. I'd like to thank all of our players for making Pegasus Fleet such a great place. Please continue to show that hospitality and give a warm welcome to our new COs and new players.

As many of you may know by now, the new task forces are now in effect as of October 4. We are happy to say that all of our sims were able to be placed in their first choice for task force. I know our new TFCOs have been chomping at the bit to work with their COs, so I imagine that commanding officers will be hearing from their TFCO soon. Task Forces 37 and 56 TFCOs are still working on laying the groundwork for their new story arcs, so it's not too late to offer ideas. You can find discussions about the story arcs on the forums. We're also planning on advancing the plot of the TF11 story arc. As a reminder, sims are not limited to only participating in their task force's story arc, so if you want to have missions in any of the three story arcs, be sure to let that TFCO know.

On the Academy front, we have had tons of new students, many of them COs looking to start up new sims in the Fleet. With all of this activity, the Academy staff has been swamped, and are in need of more instructors. If anyone is interested in applying to be an instructor, be sure to contact Admiral Stannes at academy@pegasusfleet.net.

The Department of Resources has been hard at work updating some of our ship specs and preparing for future Fleet Canon. We've been working on revising the Vesta-class specs in anticipation of a new CO. They have also revamped the Ascension-class, turning the ship into a carrier as it was originally intended. The Lexington-class has been reclassified as a cruiser. Admiral Wells has also been working on some some articles for new equipment. We should expect to see them on the wiki later this month. The Galactic Anthropology Committee is planning on compiling a list of all the current treaties, as of the current sim year, and creating a more detailed look at the galaxy as we expand into our new operating areas. Be on the lookout for this as well.

Fleet Awards will be transitioning back to the Department of Personnel and Recruiting. I know that Admiral Collins and her staff have been very excited about working on some new awards. If anyone is interested in working with them on their award projects, please contact Admiral Collins for more information.

The PFA is excited to announce that Admiral Collins has been invited by OnGoing Worlds and Obsidian Fleet to help chair the 2016 FallFest. FallFest is a one-day, online convention that is put on through OnGoing Worlds each fall. The host group rotates from year to year. This year's event will be held on Saturday, November 12. As we closer to the date we will send out more information regarding the time and location of the event, but we do know that it will be held through IRC. Admiral Collins is already planning to host a panel, and we may have other members interested as well. If anyone is interested in hosting a panel, or helping with the organization of the event, I encourage you to contact Admiral Collins at dpr@pegasusfleet.net for more information. This will be a great opportunity to meet with people in other RPG groups across the internet as well as show off our great community. I hope to see everyone there.

Finally, we are very excited to announce the opening of Pegasus Fleet's Discord Chat Server! If you've been following our forums, an open beta has been out for the past few days to gauge interest from the community. We're happy to say that we've received an overwhelming amount of approval! Discord combines our favorite elements from IRC, Slack, and TeamSpeak into one extraordinary piece of software. There are apps for Android, Mac, Windows, and iOS devices that will allow you to chat on the server from the same connection. But best of all, conversations are logged for you to go back and read, even if you aren't present for them! For people who can't always stay connected to IRC, this feature makes it easy for you to jump right into a conversation and read up on what you missed!

To join the server, click here and either chat as a guest or sign up with an account. Starting this month, we will be holding our monthly meetings on the Discord server. If anyone has any questions about the Discord server, please contact Admiral Collins, again at dpr@pegasusfleet.net.

We look forward to seeing everyone at this month's meeting. As a reminder, the meeting is open to all current and prospective members of Pegasus Fleet. The meeting will be held on Sunday, October 9, starting at 7:00 pm UTC. This time can be found on the main Fleet site for reference. As mentioned above, it will be held on the Pegasus Fleet Discord server on the #meeting channel. There will be people available in the IRC #PegasusFleet channel on the astrairc server to help anyone transition to the Discord server if you are having trouble. The IRC room is still accessible through the built-in client on the Pegasus Fleet site, as found here. The next meeting will be held on Sunday, November 13.

As always, Live Long and Prosper
