A Little Warning, PLEASE?!

I'm not here to cast stones.
I truly understand how RL, Real Live issues, can overwhelm and displace simm commitments.

BUT... I beg you.
Please ask Starship Simm Captains to agree when they launch their simms.
If the time comes when the simm is to be Deleted, PLEASE GIVE THE PLAYERS WARNING!
The shock & horror of seeing that your ship Nova-site no longer exists is... unsettling, discouraging, and frustrating.

Now, I've learned my lesson years ago.
Every time I post, I archive a duplicate at my own site.
I now archive images, profiles, and logs, as well.
But, it's no shame to give everyone a heads-up, "Guys, I can't keep the site going, any more."

We put time, energy, and heart into our characters.
Don't just blow all that away without at least giving someone a chance to take over the simm.
The SMS -errr, Nova database SHOULD be backup-able and movable to another site. (Might be wrong on that one.)

My funnest, bestest characters have often been left stranded by simm reactors exploding.
I'm loath to start them over and over and over again in other simms... too disheartening.

Okay, rant is over. I feel better.

All CO's should give players ample warning and notices are sent out by the TFCO regarding resignation of CO's as players can take over a sim.

May I ask which sim you are referring to I may be able to retrieve your bio.

I wasn't wanting to name names, but it was USS Shogun.
It suddenly vanished from Fleet Roster without warning.
Even if RL understandably brought the command to a close, it would've been nice to have a chance to pass it to someone else.

I'm a bit hypersensitive about this from experience.
Years ago, JConserv suddenly pulled the plug on hundreds, perhaps thousands of forum sites.
My understanding is that they were one of the leading forum hosts.
I've had a number of other simms vanish from the internet, as well.
(I've Googled, and apparently Shogun's site is still intact, for now... a good thing.)

My hope is that CO/XO training might include encouragement to better communicate terminal conditions to the players.

While the Academy does teach Commanding Officers and XO's to communicate with their players this may not always be the case with regards to a resignation, especially on a private server. If the hosting is done via Pegasus Fleet we leave the site open for a bit to allow players to retrieve bios and the like.

It is also policy for the Task Force Commanding Officer to inform the crew of a resignation and give them 7 days to either assume command of the sim, find another sim or request deletion.

I have checked around and I see the old Shogun site is still online. You can find it at the following link:

I hope this helps,

No worries Terris, the Tokyo hasn't been deleted. I took over the simm when the CO resigned.
