You know that famous phrase from Star Trek; To boldly go where no man has gone before? Well, it gets harder and harder to justify that tag-line on starships and sims out there in their masses today. Starfleet has explored vast swaths of space by the 24th century, and has so much territory and is surrounded by so much political intrigue that in reality, it is rare for a ship to truly go where none has gone before. This sim is different.

The first sim of Pegasus Fleet to be set during the Enterprise-era, in the middle of the 22nd century, the crew of Discovery are following in the footsteps of Captain Archer and his crew as humanity makes its first steps out into the galaxy. The Vulcans have always said those steps should be tentative - at best - but we humans are well known for diving into the unknown, especially when we find something that excites us. And so as the fourth NX class starship to join the ever-growing Starfleet, Discovery will be taking her crew out to encounter new worlds, races and discoveries that no man, woman or pet beagle from Earth has ever gone before.

Set shortly after the events of Terra Prime, Captain Curtis leads her crew in a time of change for Earth and her allies; the Coalition of Planets is just coming together, with delegates meeting regularly on Earth, Vulcan, Tellar and Andoria, and such big change is undoubtedly met with more than a little trepidation from those back on Earth who are afraid of change. It is our responsibility not only to explore the reaches of space, but to also represent humanity amongst the neighbouring powers, and to reassure the doubters back home that what we are out here doing is worth doing.

Our first mission sees us dealing with a member of Terra Prime who was out of the system when Paxton's infamous attempt to take over the verteron array on Mars was thwarted, and we're leaving drydock early to head to Deneva to prevent him from taking the lives of the Tellarites who have set up a trading post there. As our mission of exploration begins to ramp up, we're set to visit a planet full of wrecked starships whilst the crew's change in behaviour creates a real risk of Discovery joining them, followed by humanity's first encounter with the Cardassians of Deep Space Nine fame. Where we go from there is entirely up to the winds of change (and some healthy discussion amongst the crew, I'm sure).

Our crew, however, is incomplete. We still vitally require a chief helm officer to join us before we leave spacedock - the auto pilot on these ships was as basic as a Ferengi's tunnel vision when there's latinum at the other end. When we could end up flying through the atmosphere of gas giants, dense asteroid fields or strange matter streams, we need someone who knows what they're doing at the helm.

We're also in need of a commander for our M.A.C.O. detachment - ever since the Xindi event, Starfleet vessels have been recommended to carry a contingent of the specialist troops with them to deal with the though situations that may be just that bit beyond what a standard armoury officer is trained for in the field.

Anyone applied for the helm position should aim for their character to carry a rank of either Ensign or Lieutenant, while anyone applying for the M.A.C.O. commander should aim for either 1st Lieutenant or Captain. (All rank assignments are at the discretion of the CO; this is a guide for bio-writing only)

We are also willing to welcome aboard junior officers in all departments!

Discovery is still seeking a helmsman and MACO detachment commander, but we are also now seeking an Armoury Officer! Our original Armoury officer is due to come to his demise in the early phases of our first mission, which we have just set out upon, and so we will be rapidly needing a replacement; either promoted from within the ship's crew or to be couriered to us by high-speed Vulcan Transit!

Discovery is a play-by-forum sim, though we tend to run things a little differently to how many forums sims I have seen do; we still compose joint posts separately and in much the same way that you would on a Nova site, and we then put them into the main mission area when done. In addition to the obvious required posting areas, we also have numerous areas on the forums for out of character discussion, discussion around the characters each of us plays, and an area dedicated to formulating our future missions. All-in-all, the site is set up to run in a manner that will essentially be very familiar to those writers used to Nova sites, but with all of the added benefits of a forum.

I have also just started an NX-era guide on the forums, which I hope will alleviate some of the trepidation of stepping into an era that is not often written in for many of you. In it I have set out some of Earth's more recent history and the lead-up to the formation of Starfleet (which should help with biography writing), and I am in the process of detailing how the technologies of the time are different to those that we are used to. I hope to include additional content on the alien races Earth as interacted with so far and their interactions with humans and their respective levels of technologies as well.

Discovery is currently enjoying its most active month yet, with new posts coming quickly and the plot moving along very nicely - a trend we intend to keep going! However we are still in need of a replacement Armoury officer, after the ship experienced the first death among its small crew, which is currently sending shockwaves of emotion through all but our Vulcan chief medical officer - we are afterall still in the Pre-Redshirt era where Starfleet is small and it is unheard of for a crewman to die every time we step out of the ship.

Do you feel up to filling the shoes of your departed predecessor? The armoury officer is the precursor to the very popular 24th century chief of security and tactical, so if you're interested put in an application now - once it is filled I don't expect there will be an opening there again for some time!
