The important thing to note about the Abramsverse stuff is that last part of the word: 'verse'. It's an entirely different universe, and so events like the destruction of Vulcan, Kirk Sr.'s early demise, etc won't happen in this time frame anyway. The Romulus stuff we have taken a half-and-half line on for Fleet Canon, but as pointed out above, you don't have to follow even that compromising stance

It does pose some interesting ideas for the current universe. The problem is, those changes are so far reaching that there's no telling where we'd be now with the events of ST:2009 lol
