Blog: Project - Hotel Trekship

Okay. Call me crazy.
You've heard of Branson, Missouri? It's kind of a 'Little Nashville', tons of entertainment centers.
It's centrally located in the US, and it has a gigantic new private airport, full airline service.

I have friend-connections who can link me up with a 'top man' in this tourist community.
We're going to schedule an appointment. I'll drive down and pitch the idea to them.
The goal? My hope is to get 'Branson' to extend an invitation to Paramount to build a Trekship Hotel.
Maybe... get Branson to sweeten the invitation with a building incentive or something.
This way, it wouldn't be Joe nobody approaching Paramount. It would be a substantial tourist town asking.

Anyone want to 'steal' this idea? WONDERFUL. I hope they do. The more the merrier!
Let's say that Paramount catches wind and uses the idea to build a ship in CA or someplace.
All the better. An established success will make it easier for them to accept a Branson invitation.
*sigh* With my luck, it would end up being the TNG Enterprise. ;)

I created this topic thread to serve as a poor man's blog.
As things happen, I'll add replies here.

If people want to discuss hotel ideas, ask questions, etc, then perhaps use the following thread instead? -

I would luv to hear people's suggestion for Hotel Trek, if they have them.

I hope that this idea doesn't poo out and fizzle.
Well, if it does, it won't be because I dropped the ball.
I'll keep after it until one of the big players says 'no'.
I just have an odd feeling... this is so crazy, it could actually succeed!
Didn't someone say "Fortune favors the bold?"

Okay. Finally! A first tangible step.

I have a meeting scheduled for next Wednesday with Branson's City Engineer and someone from the Business Development Group.

I'm apprehensive because I'm not a gifted speaker. I think better when sitting quietly and writing. Oh well, I'll do my best!

First Meeting

Well, I just got back from meeting at Branson City Hall.
A director of economic development and city engineer listened to my schpeel.
They had good suggestions for me:

- Apparently, Los Vegas Hilton adapted hotel levels a decade or so ago to do something similar.
They suggested that I connect with the folks who did that.

- There is a 'Titanic' reproduction/museum tourist attraction.
It might be helpful to chat with the people who put that together.

- The city is well connected with the state to provide business incentives.
A 10 year, 50% tax break is an example.

- The hilly area offers a wide variety of hilly terrains which could help support theme structures.
There are even cleared land areas that haven't yet been re-landscaped, good for space theme park.

- It looks like I'm not going to get away without a Klingon Bird of Prey showing up.
I never was impressed by it, but apparently it's pretty darn popular.
Thinking more about it, I could see Klingon fans preferring to stay in Hotel IKV.
Accommodations would be appropriately Spartan (bunks, shared areas), as would be the entertainment opportunities.
Harsh tones and cursing at people in Klingon would be an acceptable norm, there.

Perhaps the most intriguing and inspiring comment came on the way out.
One of them said he was more a Star Wars fan.
My first impulse was to shrug it off... different genre, probably different company ownership.
But then it occurred to me. Why not?

Hotel alone was too isolating a concept.
Convention facilities was better, but that still was limiting.
A Day Center for drop by visitors... now that was more like it!
But even that could be improved upon.

A theme park appears to be called for.
It occurred to me that the Comic-Con formula could be learned from, here.
All those different genres, if they met separately, there wouldn't be much of an event.
However, a gathering of them all turns into a large and successful experience.
Why not do the same with Hotel Trek?

I don't really know what facilities Star Wars fans would want.
A miiiiini Star Destroyer?

As I mentioned earlier, other bed 'n breakfast facilities could be built for genres like Space 1999 and Lost in Space.
Grandiose, unrealistic vision? I don't think so.
Nobody said that it all had to be developed at once.
The foundation for modular expansion could be laid, however.
