Fleet Cook Book

Post by Jilrak » Thu Jun 19, 2014 1:31 pm

Hi all,

This thread is in hopes to make a nice list of recipies for people. I was inspired to start this by interacting with Major Armstrong of the USS Vanguard, who loves to cook. So please, put a recipe for a dish that you think your character would definitely eat. It doesn't have to be something you created (although it can be if you want) just something you think your character would eat. Please do it in this format:

Character Name:
Sim Name:

Recipe with ingredient list, cooking instructions, and dish type (appetizer, main course, dessert). If we get enough recipies, I will compile it into a document for everyone.

Character: Rear Admiral Gra'sh Jilrak
Sim: USS Vanguard / Chief of Fleet Operations

Recipe: Yummy Honey Chicken Kabobs
Dish Type: Main Course

Ingredients

1/4 cup vegetable oil
1/3 cup honey
1/3 cup soy sauce
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
8 skinless, boneless chicken breast halves - cut into 1 inch cubes
2 cloves garlic
5 small onions, cut into 2 inch pieces
2 red bell peppers, cut into 2 inch pieces
skewers

Directions
1.In a large bowl, whisk together oil, honey, soy sauce, and pepper. Before adding chicken, reserve a small amount of marinade to brush onto kabobs while cooking. Place the chicken, garlic, onions and peppers in the bowl, and marinate in the refrigerator at least 2 hours (the longer the better).
2.Preheat the grill for high heat.
3.Drain marinade from the chicken and vegetables, and discard marinade. Thread chicken and vegetables alternately onto the skewers.
4.Lightly oil the grill grate. Place the skewers on the grill. Cook for 12 to 15 minutes, until chicken juices run clear. Turn and brush with reserved marinade frequently.

Character: Lcdr. Sam Kayhill
Sim: USS Hephaistos

Recipe: Buttermilk Strawberry Shortcake
Dish Type: Dessert

Ingredients

3 cups all-purpose flour
4 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/3 cup white sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
3/4 cup chilled unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
1 cup buttermilk
2 table spoons heavy cream
1/4 cup turbinado sugar
8 cups sliced fresh strawberries
1/4 cup white sugar
1 table spoon lemon juice

2.Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
3.Whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, 1/3 cup white sugar, and salt in a mixing bowl.
4.Cut in cold butter with a knife or pastry blender until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. (If desired, place flour mixture into the work bowl of a food processor with the butter; pulse several times to cut butter into the flour mixture. Transfer mixture to a mixing bowl, and proceed.)
5.Stir in buttermilk until the flour mixture is moistened.
6.Drop 1/3-cup scoops of the dough 2 inches apart onto the prepared baking sheet.
7.Brush biscuits with heavy cream and sprinkle generously with turbinado sugar.
8.Bake in the preheated oven until golden brown, 15 to 20 minutes.
9.Mix together the sliced strawberries, 1/4 cup white sugar, and lemon juice in a large bowl. Allow berries to rest until juices develop, about 30 minutes.
10.Serve the strawberries with juice over the biscuits.
