I also want throw this out there: People keep referencing how someone really has to have an "in-depth" understanding of our fleet laws, etc. The fleet "laws" are really just club rules, and they're really really straight-forward and not all that complicated at all. We're not dealing with the American justice system or military rules and regs. This is just simple gaming stuff that's been overwritten into complicated legal jargon (which should probably be undone, really). These aren't LEGAL PROCEEDINGS, they're fun stuff that sometimes need an extra set of eyes to review and provide insight to.

While I can agree we aren't talking about a true legal system we are talking about a set of rules designed to protect all members of the fleet and the community itself.

Believe it or not, many organizations, even things like hobby clubs have rules and draft up constitutions. The means in which it's written displays a level of commitment and even symbolizes validity and professionalism. I mean you could dumb the rules down but then the fleet runs the risk of looking...well not to be harsh but like a joke.

The constitution, the JAG symbolizes a responsibility you the leaders have taken to ensuring the health and life of this community. You could run the fleet by clubhouse rules but then you risk the perception of looking like an organization run by kangaroo court.

But again, this is only the opinion of one.

No one said we should dumb down the rules, but getting rid of the legalese and BS would simplify things. Plain speech goes a long way :) A lot of it has already been rewritten with formal but plain speaking.

I think you're misunderstanding again. Our laws aren't and shouldn't be advanced legal doctrines that you need a full law degree to comprehend. We do have a Constitution that should show our "level of commitment" to our players. This proposal isn't talking about changing the wording of any of our documents, just the replacement of our JAG Department with a CO Council. Let's get back on that track here.

Whether or not we have a JAG should not be the thing that symbolizes our commitment to the community. The actions we make, for better or for worse, should be what we are defined by.

We'll just agree to disagree and leave it at that.
