Uh-oh. Now it won't let me correct it. [SOLVED]

Post by Travis » Wed Jan 27, 2016 2:47 pm

I seem to have an issue with one of my crew whose e-mail I put in incorrectly. I know I sent a PM to William with the correct e-mail address, and I've already sent the correct e-mail to the individual whose doing XO courses (the origin of the issue), but I, myself, am not able to edit it to correct it. I find this, well, quite irritating. Is there any way to allow CO's to correct e-mail's in the system or is it entirely an Admin issue like this time?

Also if someone could inform me HOW to correct it, I'd appreciate it. I loathe deleting this crewman's profile after giving an award to it (Lieutenant Gabriella Dawson), but if I have to that's fine. Additionally I did send the e-mail requesting an edit to the site admin thinking that they would have privileges to do it.

Thanks,

Note to those reading this; email error has already been corrected.

As to why COs can't correct emails and have to ask an admin; the email address exists as part of the user account, rather than the character data. COs essentially create new accounts when they add a crew member who doesn't already exist in the database somewhere, but the system doesn't let them alter the account details after that. In truth, the site itself doesn't provide any in-built method for managing the user accounts (it has to be done via the database directly), but it was probably done to stop COs potentially changing elements of user accounts that would affect the player across multiple sims. For example; if a correct email address on a user account was replaced by an incorrect one, that would show on all sims that player has characters on in the IFS manifests, and they would also be unable to get a password reset to get into their IFS account as the system sends passwords by email.
