Mission Seeds

So going through my files, I found a chunk of missions blurbs that I'd written for a Stargate simm that if expanded would work great here, too. So here they are.. Take 'em if you want them. They need to be expounded upon, of course, but if you want help with that I'll gladly brain with you a bit. The same mission can be ran with 30 different results, making it a different mission each time.

------

1.) Base Idea: Embryo Probes
Embryo probes litter a world all ready populated with other life forms. Are these probes either:
A - harmful and aggressive to the natural life forms
B - simply different and therefore feared or unsure
C - the precursor beasts sent to wreck havoc before an invasion
D - learning drones
E - The planet was uninhabited but now is not on second examination

2.) Better Planets R Us
Group of self proclaimed super scientists from world X decide that they can engineer bigger, better planets and start testing it on a neighboring solar system. They manage to successfully implant it into the system and it is perfect. Until of course something goes wrong and the planet is flung out of orbit, threatening other planets in the system.

3.) Living Planet
Planet covered with rocks, crystals and various interesting elements turns out to be plagued by a disease that breaks travelers down to their base components and ingests their important bits through the crust. Infection/cure.

4.) In the Pocket
A thief steals something from scientists. Somehow the tech ends up in the hands of the team (he botches pocketing from them?) and a running gun battle begins over who keeps this tiny whatever it is.

5.) Immortality Legacy
What side effects does a cure for aging have in the long run? Does this ensure a upper class of regents long term? Does it impede the ability to produce children? A ban on producing children? Over population? Sanctioned suicide?

6.) Underground
Earthquakes in the underground city are quickly making it uninhabitable. There's no way they can be evacuated in time. The source of these earthquakes has to be discovered and put a stop to before everyone perishes. It's not a natural force causing the tremors and they haven't existed for that long. The above ground is far too hot for humans to survive for long. So what is it?

7.) Fear of Falling
Long ago the planet's core was heavily damaged between mining and various environmental issues. The people of the planet integrated a series of artificial gravity fields and false poles before the planet was too weak to support life any longer. As time passes fear of sabotage by any of the many death cults claiming the end is being denied for selfish reasons will occur.

8.) Over Processed
A society so over geneticly altered develops severe auto immune disease as a whole. Most suffer complete systems failure by age 30. What can be done to help them if anything at all?

9.) Utopia
A seemingly benevolent race of beings creates happy subjects by creating hallucinatory worlds for them to exist in while their bodies toil onwards on autopilot.

10.) The Unseen
Zombie plagues aren't enough. Neither is nuclear war. No you need a bad guy that no one can see to really strike fear into the hearts of men. Consider a place cut off from the rest of civilization. A planet with a section fenced in where anyone trying to cross over is a lost cause because no one can risk a rescue. Most of the region's people are killed by whatever it was that was released on them. What few are left have gotten pretty damn smart on how to hear/smell/sense the baddies. The gate, btw, is in that quarantined area.

11.) City of Dusk
Air quality so bad that during warnings people cannot move through the streets during alarms. SF is called in to help the design of domes that would seal off cities from the poisonous air that came from far too many years of pollution on a grand scale. However in the mix of all of this there's a murder mystery. And the alarms that sound randomly tends to trap people in structures with no real way to get around during them.

12.) Deluge
Horrible floods assault the coastline of a sparsely populated area of a world following awful storms and farther off the destruction of part of their nearby polar shelf. When communication comes back up it appears that an illness has ravaged the area and continues its way back inland carried in the waters. Or was it the ice? Or something else? Bacteria, virus, organism, sabotage, cover up?

13.) Taken
People are disappearing in large clumps. Whole small towns and villages at a time. All that are left are the dead. A neighboring world with travel capabilities has been stealing stock from the other world in order to recharge their own genetic matrices after cloning has thinned their lines so much that there is little chance for a future.

14.) Hardwired
With so much information there in the universe access to an advanced society's memory dump would be pretty darn awesome. Unless there was ulterior motives for why they asked a starship there in the first place. With the aid of neural implants their entire mechanical system is pretty hands off, meaning creative applications of brute force may be necessary.

15.) Fallout
Post-cataclysmic society mapped out after the radiation levels died down enough to make travelling there safe. SF is sent to investigate after word that the weapon that did this is still in possession of an enemy that may pose a later threat to them.

16.) Ghosts of Peril's Future
Aliens from the world the ship travels to decide to project travel back to their past to warn of future acts. The travelers appear to those in the present almost as apparitions that litter the mission with cryptic bits of information of some horrible thing to come in order to stop it..

17.) Plug In Baby
VR world has very little left to offer on the outside world. Help is called for when VR terrorists are sabotaging bits of the net to crash, killing hundreds at a time. It's determined that the source is outside the system. Very few are not completely dependant on the altered reality as their world is in such dire straits.

18.) Olduvai/Multhusian Theory
If the amount of resources needed to sustain a population runs out, there's no way to support the population. Resources like agriculture and oil are limited, yet population continues to boom. Without war or plague there's no check for the population. What about famine? If a government was forced to thin its population for the continued existence what would they choose to do?

19.) Shining Brightly
As stars age and their luminosity increase, as does the heat and radiation that pound surrounding planets. Eventually as the star expands with age the planets will become too hot for life to exist on its surface. 'Lifting' a section of a sun's mass will cause the luminosity to to fall back into proportionate levels which could make the planet inhabitable longer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_lifting). This could make for interesting cause and effect determining what's done with the remaining energy or gasses and if there's a weapon involved. (Also see below Kardashev & Dyson)
