[Proposed] Personal Stealth Unit

Post by Alex » Sat Jul 13, 2013 8:57 pm

Please review the following information for discussion and approval:

-------------------------------
Based on the success of personal cloaking suits (based on events in the movie Star Trek Insurrection) Starfleet Intelligence was very eager to try and make a personal cloaking unit that did not involve a suit for intelligence and special ops groups. Although they have never truly been able to miniaturize a device small enough to still generate a true cloaking field, they did come up with a reasonable alternative.

The device is called a Personal Stealth Unit, but in reality, it is a two staged system using a combination of sensor reflection and a holo-emitter. Each stage can be used individually or in combination. It is more effective when the two stages are together. The unit is hands free and can be strapped on to the leg or arm. If a Hands Free Tricorder is in use, there is a spot for it to be attached to the arm band.

The first stage of the system has a tricorder as its base workings. Whatever the tricorder reads in, it then broadcasts back out. This masks the individuals readings to all but the highest end sensors. So, if a user was in a field of poppy's, sensors would just detect poppy's. The first stage of the system does not hide an individual from sight.

The second stage of the system is based on a tricorder and a mobile holo-emitter. This will read in what it senses optically around the wearer. Then a small holo-emitter re-transmit the scenery around the wearer in a small range. This is usually no more than a 3 foot radius around the wearer. The holo-emitter system will not mask a wearer from sensor readings.

Flaws:
1. Having one's sensor information cloaked does not cloak one's visual information and vice-versa
2. The visual cloak is more detectable the more and faster an individual moves as the emitter isn't as sophisticated as a holo-deck's. At a full run, someone is 75% detectable In addition, it doesn't mask footprints or blood trails a person leaves.
3. The unit is a power hog. Each section used alone will need to be recharged in two days. Used together, the unit will need to be charged in a day, assuming limited or no extended amounts of walking.

I like it. I like the idea and how it was done, but I also like how it's a power hog and not indefinite. Nice way to keep it real.
