Monthly Update - June 2016

Post by Alex » Mon Jun 13, 2016 4:12 am

Hello everyone,

To start things off this month, I'd like to introduce the newest member of the Pegasus Fleet Admiralty, Rear Admiral Rachel Collins. Admiral Collins has taken over as the Director of Personnel and Recruitment, and already in less than a week has hit the ground running. In addition to commanding the USS Tempest, many of you probably already know Admiral Collins as Emily Wolf, or Wolfie as she goes by in the fleet IRC rooms. Admiral Collins has experience in community building, and plans to work towards building our chatrooms, forums, and social networking presence. She has also talked about reaching out to the COs to see what she can do to help with recruitment efforts for your sims, so stay tuned for those messages. Please join me in giving her a warm welcome to the PFA. I'm looking forward to working with her and seeing the changes she plans to bring.

This month has been a busy one for the PFA, though a lot of work has been behind the scenes. We've made a few updates to IFS on the main fleet site. A couple of changes were updates to give the PFA members some more control over the Academy and fleet staff pages. The biggest change that most of the fleet will see is the replacement of the news feed with a feed from the forums. The news feature on the main site was severely underused, and wasn't adding anything for the fleet since we already had the forums and the monthly updates. Now we have another tool for promoting the forums, and updates to the fleet can be posted there just as easily as the news feed.

In other fleet operations news, we've resumed sending regular emails from Admiral Gates to the commanding officers. In addition to the monthly reports, this is another way for us to get a better understanding on what is going on with the sims, and to let us know what we can do to enhance the simming experience. We also have two new COs that have joined us in the past month. Please give a warm welcome to Commander Christopher Tennet of Starbase 218 and Commander John Dalgren of the USS America.

Admiral Stannes has been working on updating the CO refresher course that we offer in the PF Academy for returning COs. The purpose for the refresher is to update COs that are new to Pegasus Fleet about differences between this and other fleets. It also helps COs that have not commanded a sim in a while get up to speed on the new material. It may be a good idea for current COs to take a look at the refresher just to make sure that you are still up to speed on what is going on. If anyone has any questions about the catch up course, be sure to contact Admiral Stannes at academy@pegasusfleet.net.

There hasn't been a lot building in R&D or GAC this past month, but Admiral Wells has been checking around to see what fleet members are most interested in seeing. At the moment, it looks like new GAC articles related to the races and species of Star Trek is the preference. If you want to weigh in on what you would like to see from the PF Department of Resources, Admiral Wells has created a poll on the forums. That poll can be accessed here.

I have one last point of business before I get to the monthly meeting reminder. It is a requirement that all Pegasus Fleet sims have a rating scale visible on their front page. The rating scale can be of the COs own design, though the official preference is to use the Unversal RPG Rating system. No matter what system is used, the sim rating must be clearly displayed. We'll be checking sim websites over the course of this next month to make sure that they are present, so please get those added if you haven't already.

This month's fleet meeting will be on Sunday, June 12, in the #PegasusFleet channel on the AceIRC server. You can access the channel through any IRC client, or use the built in client on the Pegasus Fleet site, which can be found here. The meeting will start at 7:00 pm UTC. As a reminder, the fleet meeting is open to any member of the fleet as well as any prospective members. If you know of anyone that is thinking about joining a sim, feel free to have them join in as well. The next monthly meeting will be on Sunday, July 10.

As always, Live Long and Prosper,
Fleet Admiral Emily Quinn
Commanding Officer
11th 'Pegasus' Fleet

Fleet Captain Liarra Von
Commanding Officer
Starbase 332
