Monthly Update - September 2017

Post by Alex » Sat Sep 09, 2017 4:22 am

Hi everyone,

August was a bit of a rough month. As a reminder to all commanding officers, monthly reports are due each month by the 3rd. We were missing several reports this month. Although there was no reminders sent out from the Fleet Operations staff, it is still the responsibility of the CO to get those reports in. As for the Fleet Ops staff, most of the department was unavailable due to various medical related reasons. I apologize if we have been slow getting to requests and questions, but it's been a bit hectic lately because of that. At least we have a new Star Trek show to look forward to. The long-awaited Star Trek Discovery premieres Sunday, September 24.

There have been some reports of IFS issues this past month, ranging from monthly report emails not being returned to issues registering people for the Academy. If there is anyone that is supposed to be taking the command course, and has not already spoken to Admiral Kaz, please contact him at academy@pegasusfleet.net. If anyone has experienced any other issues with IFS, please contact us at webmaster@pegasusfleet.net.

As I mentioned above, the Fleet Operations staff has been unavailable for most of the month due to various medical reasons. We hope to have our TFCOs back to us soon. But unfortunately, we are losing our Chief of Fleet Operations. Rear Admiral Christopher Gordon Sr. has been with Pegasus Fleet for the past year, originally serving as our Director of Resources before moving into the Chief of Fleet Operations role. He's been a big part of the Fleet Staff in that time. Unfortunately, medical issues with his wife means that he must spend more time with his family and less time with the Fleet. He does plan on continuing with the USS Gladiator-A and helping with the Resources department, but understandably is not able to dedicate as much time with the Fleet Ops position. As all of us know here, family always comes first. We wish the best for your wife and your family, and we hope she has a speedy recovery.

With Admiral Gordon stepping down, that does mean that we have another opening in the PFA. Previously we filled the Chief of Fleet Ops position with someone else within the PFA, but this time we are opening the position up to the Fleet. The Chief of Fleet Operations is a very important piece of the PFA. In addition to joining PFA discussions and contributing to the overall direction of the Fleet, the position is tasked with overseeing all of the Fleet's task forces and commanding officers. Typically fleet operations tasks include reviewing new CO applications, maintaining the fleet task forces, and serving as the representative of the commanding officers on the PFA. This position is often the most demanding position in the PFA because of the scope of the department, so applicants should be prepared to make themselves available to work with the commanding officers as much as needed. If any commanding officers are interested in applying for the Chief of Fleet Operations position, you can email me at pfco@pegasusfleet.net.

Before I finish up this month, I wanted to make special mention of the many natural disasters that have cause mass hardship in various places around North America. After Hurricane Harvey devastated the gulf coast of Texas, wildfires have been spreading through the western United States, Hurricane Irma has passed through the Caribbean and is about to make landfall over Florida. Now Hurrican Jose is battering those same Caribbean islands, and a massive earthquake off the southern coast of Mexico has taken the lives of many. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of the victims of these disasters.

This month's meeting will be held this Sunday, September 10, at 3:00 pm EDT in the #meeting channel of the Fleet Discord server. All current and prospective members of the fleet are encouraged to attend. It is a great opportunity to ask questions of the Fleet staff and receive updates on fleet activity. And of course, it's always a great way to meet other members of the fleet. The next meeting will be held on Sunday, October 8.

As always, Live Long and Prosper
