Monthly Update - May 2019

Post by Alex » Sat May 18, 2019 4:28 am

Hello everyone!

For all the mothers in our Fleet, I hope you had a lovely weekend last week, even those who aren’t in the US. April was another month for the Pegasus Fleet staff where there was a lot going on behind the scenes, but not a lot to share with everyone at this time. There was some exciting Star Trek news outside of our Fleet earlier this week. The new Picard series has officially been named, and it will be simply Star Trek: Picard. Also previously announced is a two animated series. One is titled Lower Decks, and will be more of a comedy series. And the other will be partnered with Nickelodeon. It’s not clear yet how these new shows will affect Fleet canon, but as more news comes out, we’ll be sure to keep everyone updated.

Speaking of Fleet canon, I’m excited to announce that we have released two new ship classes. The first, the Ares-class, was built from the lessons learned on the Prometheus-class project. The multi-vector assault mode developed for the Prometheus-class proved to be too complex and difficult to maintain. The Ares-class built on the successes of the Prometheus project, but removed the MVAM systems. The removal of the extra redundant systems allowed engineers to improve the classes versatility, leading to the Ares-class long-range tactical vessel.

The second new class of starship to be released is the Valkyrie-class long-range command carrier. The threat of the Borg and the Dominion led to a surge in smaller, more heavily specialized vessels. While these ships were well suited to the tasks they were design to handle, there was a significant gap in Starfleet’s ability to support larger-scale operations. Enter the Valkyrie-class. The Valkyrie is a massive carrier and mobile command center, designed to deploy to a problem area and remain for long periods of time. Mission operations would include peacekeeping, combat and reinforcement, diplomatic negotiations, and large-scale relief efforts.

In other news this month, we have been approached about some possible changes to our command course, as well as the possibility of creating separate material for our executive officers. The intention for both courses is to give our new commanding officers the best tools that we can provide to help them with their sims, and that includes having an executive officer that is armed with knowledge and experience to properly support their COs. Right now we are in very initial stages, but Admiral Kaz has been looking into the possible updates.

The last update for this month actually has to do with our news feed. It has been pointed out that most of the activity on our news feed, which can be found on the Pegasus Fleet homepage, is this monthly report. We would like to start sharing more news and announcements as they happen, with the monthly update summarizing what has been going on. I’d also like to encourage our COs to add content to the newsfeed as well. This can be done as simply as posting a new post to our forums. A few days ago I posted an end-of-mission update on Starbase 332 in the form of a Federation News Service article. While other styles can be used, the idea behind this is to keep the rest of the Fleet involved with your sims’ missions, and help facilitate the creation and advancement of story arcs. While this is currently not a requirement, it is strongly encouraged. We’d love to see what you have going on. A direct link to my forum post can be found right here.

This month’s meeting will be held in the #meeting channel on Discord this Sunday, May 19. It will start at 3:00 pm EDT / 8:00 pm GMT. The meeting is open to all members of Pegasus Fleet and any guests that may be interested in learning more about our community. The next meeting will be on Sunday, June 9. Note that we will be back on our usual schedule of the second Sunday of the month.

As always, Live Long and Prosper
Alex
