Species Format Submission Form 35489.2321A
Please fill out this form in as much detail as possible.
SPECIES NAME: Trill Symbiont
IMAGE:
CULTURAL DESIGNATION: They have no Culture. They are a joined species
HOME SYSTEM: Trill, also called Trillius.
HOME REGION: Unknown
HOME QUADRANT: Alpha
PLANETARY INFORMATION: Trill is a mostly tropical and temperate world with colder regions close to the poles. The southern subcontinent is good for vacations. One geographical point of interest is the Caves of Mak’ala where the symbionts are born and kept when not joined with the Trill humanoids. The unjoined Trill who work in the caves can know what symbiont a Trill is joined to just by touching their skin. The Tenaran Ice Cliffs are frequented by daredevil rock climbers, said to be some of the most challenging in the Federation.
DISCOVERY DATE & SHIP: eg. Approximately 8000 BC by Trill Humanoids
AFFILIATION: Federation Members
CAPITAL: Caves of Mak’ala
POPULATION: 12,000, some for breeding, others for joining.
APPEARANCE: Trill symbionts appear as slugs with tails. They swim through the waters of Mak’ala, and are placed in the pouch of a Trill humanoid unless they are too large to do so. When they grow to that size, they are placed into the pools for breeding.
LANGUAGE: When in the caves, they communicate with each other and with Trill humanoids through electrical discharges. When they are joined, they become one person with the host.
CHARACTER: The character of the symbionts varies from individual to individual. They start out as curious, however, the more hosts a symbiont has, more the hosts influence the symbiont’s personality. Because no two people are ever exactly alike, every symbiont is completely different
LOCATION:
The Caves of Mak’ala on Trill Homeworld
HISTORY:
The symbionts have a long history. They lived in the caves without ever knowing there was something else besides themselves. When a shaman met them 10,000 years ago, they were soon introduced to being joined to humanoids. They discovered they could experience things they never could before. The different types of food, smells, the feel of a child in its mother’s arms. Everything was fresh and new. This has continued to the present day, though the humanoids now compete to be joined with them.
TECHNOLOGY:
Trill symbionts have no technology as they have no hands.
RELIGION:
The symbionts have no gods.
CONTACT: The Trill symbionts were discovered 10,000 years ago, and contact was a success with the shaman as he introduced them to new experiences.
GOVERNMENT: They have no government because they have no way to kill each other, steal from each other, or hurt each other.
MILITARY:
None
MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATION:
One ritual of joined Trills is called the zhin’tara, where a joined Trill meets its past hosts. A guardian from the Caves of Mak’ala assists in the ceremony, whereby the memories and personalities of the past hosts are passed one at a time to friends or family of the current host.

Very cool! Never really read up much on the symbionts until now.
