Yep, I see the resignation news post. I am so sorry to hear, David. I have lost count of the number of times that has happened in Sims of which I've been member. Being a CO is N-O-T easy.
I hope that one of the crew has the desire, the time, and the energy to step in to keep the Sim running. If not, then please don't be discouraged. There are many more active ships in the fleet, each with its own unique character.

Yeah, I received his resignation email last night.
Under fleet rules, resigning COs have 24 hours to rescind their resignation if they choose to do so - after that period (unless he changes his mind), we'll be contacting the crew of the ship to discuss what happens next.

The London CO has rescinded their resignation, and is continuing with command of the sim.
