Text version:
Starfleet’s long-range subspace sensors have recorded an
unusual subpsace anomaly that has formed in the region of
space that joins the borders of the Klingon Empire and the
Gorn Hegemony. Whilst such an anomaly would not normally
be of high concern, its location and the timing of its sudden
appearance is considered suspicious enough to warrant
further investigation.
The USS Antares is hereby ordered to investigate this
anomaly and report back with their findings. The Antares
is advised to proceed with extreme caution, and be prepared
for potential hostilities. The nature of the anomaly may cause
disruption to communication technologies and Starfleet warp
drives.

As ordered by:
Rear Admiral Richard Gates, Chief of Fleet Operations, 11th Fleet

The proposed progression of this mission plot is:
  • The subspace anomaly is revealed to be a staging post for Gorn forces. The forces can be either Gorn only, or can include the Tzenkethi and/or the Ritorians. The Gorn forces are using the area to launch recon sorties into Klingon space
  • The anomaly is man-made, and is designed to hide all ships within its area from sensors.
  • Within the borders of the anomaly (which spans a large area), ships can only travel at warp one. Long-range communication is impossible. Short-range is limited. Any Starfleet ship entering the zone will be on its own.
  • The ship's objective once it has entered the anomaly will be to obtain whatever intelligence they can and escape the anomaly - preferably unnoticed, though this is at the discretion of the CO - to report back to Starfleet.
The specific outcome is up to the CO who takes on this mission. If a CO wants this mission but wants it to progress in a different way, feel free to discuss it with me.

I certainly wouldn't mind taking this on as my next mission. Is it okay if it'll be a few weeks before I start it?

Sure thing! And no, it doesn't matter if you don't start it for a few weeks (most sim missions tend to go for months anyway). I'll get the first post and the image amended to refer to the Antares.

The USS Antares has reached the spacial anomaly and has been unable to ascertain anything that's causing it or what may be at it's core. Communications in or out are blocked, and probes are losing their guidance systems and reverting to "phone home" protocols to get back after only piercing the thinnest part of the veil. What little readings they could discern has been scrambled and broken beyond comprehension.

The recon shuttle that was sent ahead is also MIA, presumably lost in the anomaly... or worse.

Captain Joe Rhimer has made a last daring move, driving the Antares forward, into the massive spatial mystery, hoping to crack it's shell and find out what's inside. He only hopes that they don't die trying...
