In the year 2385 Starfleet recognised that the Akira Class Carrier had been rather successful in its operations as a carrier. However it was time for a new updated design of the ship. Starfleet needed a new carrier class of starship that was fast, reliable and ready to deploy at a moments notice. In 2388 four new spaceframes were laid down at the New Aberdeen Shipyards. Those four spaceframes would be the USS Armitage, USS Broadsword, USS Oceania and the USS Tokyo.
These new starships, the Armitage Class were packed full of new advanced technology and using similar lines to the Akira Class designed solely as rapid response carrier escort vessels. The USS Tokyo, the fourth of its class was launched in 2390, however several design flaws brought it back to spacedock after two trial runs.
The USS Tokyo is the fourth vessel of the class and is currently commanded by Commander Taiga Aisaka, a young officer with a lot of potential. The Tokyo's main mission is to patrol the Federation's Neutral Zones, shipping lanes and eliminate any threats to protect the security of the Federation. From managing civilian traffic to engaging potential invasion forces the Armitage classes are built to defend the security of the Federation and this is the Tokyo's main mission.
