FNS, ARCHA IV - BREAKING NEWS - Following the arrival of a passing ion storm, Archan authorities were shocked to discover that Starbase 332, the space station orbiting Archa IV, had appeared to have vanished without a trace. Before the arrival of the storm, the station, under the command of Captain Liarra Von of Starfleet, had made arrangements to dock any remaining ships in the vicinity, and turn away any ships that were too far away to be safely brought inside.
The last broadcast message to surface based receivers on Archa IV suggested that all was well and storm preparations had been complete. Interference from the ion storm prevented further messages from being sent. However, surface stations reported the station’s presence up until it was completely enveloped by the storm. At that point, sensors were no longer able to penetrate the electrical storm.
It is not yet clear what happened to the station, but the distinct lack of a debris field suggests that the station may be intact. Archa officials believe that it is possible that the storm was able to drag the station along its path. With sensors unable to penetrate the storm, and the storm having passed beyond the range of Archa sensor arrays, the investigation will fall to Starfleet. Eleventh Fleet officials reporting from Cestus III say that a search is underway.
There were estimated to be 600,000 to 800,000 people on board the station at the time of its disappearance. Exact figures are not known due the confusion regarding the ship traffic into and out of the station before the storm arrived.
